SME Recognizes IMS Directors as Most Influential Professors in Smart Manufacturing
IMS Center Directors Professor Jay Lee (Ohio Eminent Scholar in Advanced Manufacturing, University of Cincinnati) and Professor Jun Ni (Shien-Ming “Sam” Wu Collegiate Professor of Manufacturing Science, University of Michigan) have been recognized by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) as two of the 20 most influential professors in smart manufacturing. SME cited Professor Lee's and Professor Ni's stays as world-renowned pioneers and leaders in cutting edge smart manufacturing concepts and technologies, such as intelligent maintenance, prognostics and health management (PHM), Industrial AI, Industrial Big Data Analytics, Near-Zero Downtime, Zero Downtime (ZDT), worry-free manufacturing, and the 4 "R"s of smart manufacturing (responsiveness, resilience, reconfigurability and reusability). Through their individual contributions, as well as their combined impact on the manufacturing industry though their founding and leadership of the NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center for Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS), Professors Lee and Ni are clearly deserving of this honor.
